Wreaths Across America - Acton Cemetery
- Dates: December 14, 2019
- Location: Acton Cemetery
- Address: Acton, TX
- Time: 12:00 PM
When wreath maker Morrill Worcester found himself with a surplus of 5,000 wreaths during the holiday season, he saw the surplus as an opportunity to pay tribute to our country’s veterans, and arranged for the surplus wreaths to be placed at Arlington National Cemetery. This annual tribute to our country’s veterans has continued ever since, touching the lives of millions of veterans’ families and growing in scope. In 2018, volunteers placed nearly 2 million veterans’ wreaths at over 1,600 locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea, and abroad.
This year, National Wreaths Across America day will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019. Locally, a ceremony will begin at 12:00 p.m., noon, followed by the placement of wreaths at Acton Cemetery located at 3629 Fall Creek Highway, Granbury, Texas, where 461 local veterans are laid to rest. The ceremony and wreath laying are open to anyone who would like to attend and all volunteers are invited to place wreaths.
In 2018, there were 454 wreaths placed at Acton Cemetery with an additional 130+ wreaths placed at Holly Hills Cemetery in Granbury. Our goal this year is to again place a wreath at every veteran’s grave at Acton Cemetery and to also support wreaths for the veterans’ graves at Holly Hills Cemetery. We intend to meet this goal and to ensure no veteran is forgotten. The cost to sponsor each live wreath is $15. For every wreath sponsored through the Elizabeth Crockett DAR Chapter, $5 is returned by Wreaths Across America to support the local Granbury High School JROTC!
