The North Central Texas Civil War Round Table is a non-profit 501c3 organization formed in 2008 for the purpose of the continued study of the American Civil War. From our inception we have attempted to keep a calculated balance in mixing subjects, people, events and engagements in order to appeal to a broad audience of all ages and genders. Our interest is in political and military leaders and their actions that shaped the American Civil War era. Hundreds of similar Round Tables exist in cities and communities not only across the nation, but throughout the world. All are independent organizations that share a common objective in promoting and expanding the study of the American Civil War. We do not take positions on contemporary issues of controversy. The Round Table’s concern is history, not current affairs. Over the past several years we have had programs on events leading up to the civil war; the impact of the war on the Texas frontier; various battles and campaigns of the war; and on many of the political and military leaders of the time, including Abraham Lincoln, Jefferson Davis, Union General Ulysses S. Grant, and Confederate Generals John Bell Hood and Hiram B. Granbury, for whom our county and city are named. Speakers have addressed the fortification of Washington, D.C, during the war; the economy of Hood County and the local area in the war years; and the 50th anniversary of the Union and Confederate veterans of the battle of Gettysburg. While most of our programs are presented by professors—often prolific authors on civil war subjects—from colleges and universities in Texas and near-by states, we occasionally coordinate with the Round Tables in Ft. Worth and Dallas to share expenses in bringing in nationally known civil war historians. This has enabled us to have several speakers often seen on national television programs covering the war. The Round Table meets monthly from September to May, at 6:30 P.M., at Spring Creek Bar-B-Que, 317 Hwy 377 E in Granbury. Guests are always welcome, and there is no charge for the first meeting. For regular attendees, individual memberships are $25.00 per year; family memberships are $35.00; and Speaker Sponsor memberships, which include the privilege of attendance at a reception for each speaker, are $100.00.
