Spartan and Tough Mudder announce Granbury will now host a 3rd Event, World’s Toughest Mudder
November 4 - 5, 2023 Will Offer an Action-Packed 24 Endurance Event
Visit Granbury, Texas– Confirms the global leaders in Obstacle Course Racing - Spartan and Tough Mudder will add a third event in Granbury in 2023. Tough Mudder, BOSTON, Mass. has announced that the company has selected Granbury, Texas to host its coveted World’s Toughest Mudder (WTM) November 4 - 5, 2023. “The WTM event was held in Pensacola, FL in 2022 and are thrilled they will make the move to Granbury, Texas.” – Tammy Dooley, Director - City of Granbury Convention & Visitors Bureau – Visit Granbury.
“Tough Mudder Dallas (Granbury) has been a staple of the season year after year, and we have made a home by hosting it in beautiful Granbury to our loyal members of Texas Mudder Nation” said Tough Mudder Director of Marketing Tyler Bradbury. “We’re thrilled to get World’s Toughest Mudder to an easily accessible portion of the country for thousands coming from around the globe. Granbury has the perfect dining, entertainment, and outdoor activity line up to welcome our Mudders for a full weekend experience. The positive economic impact this event will have in the region also is something we take great pride in.”
World’s Toughest Mudder is a 24-hour extreme endurance experience, where competitors battle it out overnight, running as many times as they can throughout a grueling 5-mile course. This event has grown in popularity throughout the OCR community and Tough Mudder puts on only 1 World’s Toughest Mudder, per year…noting the significance and magnitude of an event this scale.
Now, Granbury will host three major events in 2023. October 21-22 Dallas Spartan Ultra 50K, Beast 21K & Spring 5K at Martha’s Ranch, November 4-5 World Tough Mudder and November 11-12 Tough Mudder both at True Grit Ranch. Both the Spartan & Tough Mudder events have been in Granbury for two of a 3-year commitment in partnership with Visit Granbury. The now three-event Granbury weekend experiences bring the Spartan Community and Mudder Nation together to enjoy Texas Hospitality at its best. The City of Granbury Convention – Visitor Bureau and a team of tourism Stakeholders have worked to finalize arrangements to host these events. These events attract thousands of participants and spectators to the region.
“This is definitely a three-peat” for tourism economic impact. Along with the increased visitor footprint in Granbury, the region will also reap the benefits of both organizations’ powerhouse advertising and marketing reach as each event promotes their race host location of Granbury, Texas.” – Dooley added.
The tourism economic impact for both current events is estimated to be $19 Million over three years. Both events just wrapped their second year in Granbury. The Spartan Race usually brings 10,000 Racers and 3,000 spectators with average Hotel Room Nights of 5,980 per event weekend with total economic impact $3,737,500. Registration was well over the average this year with 13,376 registered plus spectators. Estimates are well over 15,000. The Tough Mudder Race usually brings 7,200 Racers and 2,000 Spectators with Average Hotel Room Nights 3,974 per event weekend with total economic impact of $2,750,800. Over $6 Million annually. Heavy rains and storms reduced numbers to 2858 this year plus spectators for an estimate of 3,500-4,000 total attendance. “The addition of the Worlds Tough Mudder event will add an additional $5 Million dollars per year in tourism economic impact to the Hood County Region” according to Cherie Bortnick, Sr. Director of Business Development - Spartan Race, Inc. Combined, these three annual events will produce approximately $24 Million annually.
